Android fragmentation is out of control

Android has been, in many ways, an incredible platform and a huge contribution to the evolution of mobile computing, introducing unique innovations in its own right. Although my own preference is for Apple and iOS, I try to pay the competitor its due respect.

However, there are other things that have to be admitted about Android, too, such as its insane level of fragmentation. This seemingly unavoidable issue has introduced a host of problems, particularly due to its colossal scale.

In a rather frank analysis, Open Signal shows us the sheer magnitude of this techno-schizophrenia, and they may have arguably only gotten just past “scratching the surface” levels.

An honest question now needs to be asked of Google: where do you go from here, if anywhere at all, now that Pandora has opened the box?
